Early Twin Cam bar wiring connectors?
 

Can anybody confirm that the early TC Dynas actually have connectors in the backbone for the bar wiring?

The service manual for my 99 only discusses cut/solder for switch replacement, but I see people talking about connectors in the backbone. Before I take the tank off and start yanking on the harness it would be nice to know it will bear any fruit.

I'm trying to decide if I want to mess with internal wiring my stock bars. I need to drill them for my turn signals regardless but I'd really rather not cut the wires at the switches. It's already really tight in there and I'm gonna be replacing the bars in the fall so I'll just have to cut them again then... Rather not do it twice. If there are connectors, tho...that's different.

ive done it three time on my 01 WG. yes the connectors are in the backbone. the connectors are great quality and the pins are designed to be R&R so dont cut and splice anything. get a plus 10" wire ext kit that have the factory pins already crimped, you will have to heat shrink one side after adding the ext but they are as reliable as OE when completed. look at your rear fender at the bottom you'll see a plastic plug, its design is to allow you to remove it and cut the zip ties on the factory provided "slack loop" and push/pull from the front back to get the forward harness exposed to the connectors. the "slack loop" is a mother "fer" with the rear wheel/fender installed but it can be done. read the SM on how to work the connectors and definitely do internal wires. but be certain you are "sure" of your bar choice. you'll only want to do it once.

I knew about the service loop and such, but didn't really want to gobyanking on 15 year old wires if it wasn't necessary.

My fender and struts are long gone and I've already rewired everything from the cconsole back so that's a non-issue.

Well, that was easy. There are four connectors. Two 6 pin Deutsch for the switch housings, a 4 pin amp connector for the turn signals, & a 3 pin amp for the headlight. Wires are out, connectors disassembled, and controls off. Bars are off, drilled, deburred, cleaned and waiting on me to finish dinner.

90% done. Controls are back on. Need to wrap the exposed wires with techflex and put the connectors back together. Took longer to get the amp connector apart and solder the leads on the new signals than it did to pull the wires. Had to make a tool to get the tangs on the amp retracted.
