Default fresh meat 1st timer

looking for a tech savior i have a 2005 fxdc dana superglide 1540cc , and the other day i was cruising down the highway when it just powered down and died , i tried to restart but but i would turn the key halfway and i would see the odometer but when i fully turned the key it would go dark can anyone tell this poor soul how to solve my issue, also i tried jumping it and all i got was a brief crank follwed by the dreaded clicks and a hot set of cables. this is my first harley so come on and help me out im stuck at the house with an ankle moniter for 60 days help a good guy out and i do have access to a few parts mongers inventories and a stack of used tires various sizes, and a work in progress trailer ill customize for what ever specs you might need HELP

First thing I'd rule-out is electrical...check battery voltage and cables (tight connections = both ends). If that doesn't correct your woes...time to dig deeper.

If the above doesn't work possibly the Ignition Switch .. Had this happen to a 2004 Dyna owned about 5-6 years back ..

Start with the simple stuff first. Check your battery and ground cables, get the battery load tested. Look to see if your fuses and relay connections are clean and tight.

I would pull the battery, charge it load test it. If the bike will start, do a voltage test while it is running. Turn it off and then test the rectifier/regulator and stator. It's quite possible your battery is just dead from age.
