Default RE: 15,000 mile inner primary bearing - definitive answer!

Good Morning Folks,

I've been looking for all the information on this subject that I can find; same problem still going on. I'm on my third set of bearings, it ate the clutch hub bearing at the same time.

Here are the threads that I've posted on, I hope that this helps keep the information in one place for all that need it:

https://www.hdforums.com/m_2244261/tm.htm
https://www.hdforums.com/m_2268712/tm.htm

and I'll copy this to: https://www.hdforums.com/m_2540619/tm.htm

The 06 FXDI, has around 20K miles on it and less than 1K miles on the last set of bearings and already I'm woundering if I'm starting to hear the "throw out bearing" noise.

Hopefully, I'll get enough miles on it before the warranty runs out, 4/24/08.

Best wisdhes,

Pixs

hey pix, has your dealer considered just replacing your tranny or are they waiting on your warranty to expire then let you pay for one?

However, he claims your VIN will show if anything is needed (part of their internal safety recall list - which I think comes up on the web site service check as well).

I could imagine a bearing on the original bikes being worn somewhat prior to the recall change, so not sure about that.

In any event, whether HD knows what they're talking about remains to be seen, but the listing on the web site to do the change very 15,000 miles is onerous, and they do not believe it will be required now.
WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE MANUAL SAYS TO CHANGE IT EVERY 15000 as part of the maintenance schedule

True it is
but unfortunately my mileage is creeping up to that 15k Mark since the last bearing change.
