Battery not holding charge

sounds like you are running off the battery, you need to get a volt meter and start
checking things... first charge battery ( still possible new one is bad ) then check battery voltage with bike not running.. then start the bike and check the voltage static and then rev the engine a few times to about 2k..
see if voltage rises and just how high if it doesn't then you need to get a repair manual and start checking the electrical system.. the system is beyond MOST backyard mechanics ability to repair other than a voltage regulator swap out

Could be -> battery..., regulator..., stator... wiring in between
Isolate - troubleshoot..., identify..., replace defective part(s) - or clean the connections
Need a VOM

My son had exactly the same problem; however, the most he got was 30 minutes before bike died completely. Turned out to be a bad stator.
