Default Best Way to Paint Cylinder Barrels?

While cylinder barrels are off the engine, my plan was to spray them with some VHT engine paint, let them dry completely, then go around the edges of the fins with sand paper.

Is this the best way to do it?

Thanks!

I would keep the fin edges black. The edges rot like buggery over here!

If it me - I'd PC em - regardless

VHT is good paint..., and very durable

Suggest using steel wool / or scotch bright pads on the edges - less abrasive

May give a shot at taping the edges..., then using an exacto knife to cut off the excess.., so you're left with a thin strip only covering the jug edges

Post some pics so we can ooh and awe

As said above, spend your time and tape off the edges using blue painters tape and then have them powder coated if you are looking for any durability.

Won't paint/PC hold heat in?

Seems I remember 2 stroke racing engines being sand blasted to remove factory paint and to increase surface area for cooling.

Paint and PC won't hold that much heat that you'd really notice. A 2 stroke engine is an entirely different animal, especially one built up for racing.

I have painted many cylinders with VHT wrinkle. I use a dremel with a sanding tube to do the edges. Works very well.
