Once cost is brought in. Would a 124 or 143 not yeild better bang for the buck?

I see the point but when I bought my dealer parts, service guys and sales all assisted me in my choice and they said for the money the 120R is a better choice because its built straight out of the box and building up a 117 is quite a lot of alteration and one may have to rebuild if they ride hard because of the building up instead of a 120R built stock out of the box for racing. But to each their own? Not knocking at all choices ! Remember your building or stretching a 117 getting the numbers where the 120R is more CI therefore a 117 peaks earlier unless Harley is wrong ! Otherwise why build and sell 120R. Just build a 117 up??

check the price of a 124 and it is much higher than a 120R and performance according to S&S isn't much different and oK a 143 yeah it yields 140+ but 8 grand or more NOT! My 120R was 5700 plus install also a recluse clutch at 400 bucks is all I need. But to each their own ! I understand your logic also! Its about choices !

Show me a biker that just cruises up to a stop and doesn't downshift! I must be missing something here ? I ride with bikers and every time we come to a stop it seems we respectfully down shift with the stop. Now don't know anyone cruising at 100 MPH that downshifts to 3rd gear or second ! But there's always a first time !
I always downshift when slowing down, but to keep my revs in the powerband, not to slow the bike...

I rev-match to downshift to always have the bike in the proper gear and RPM range; downshifting is not for slowing down, the brake pads are...

it's called engine braking but we all get the point....
guy with hurricane heads.. I was told by dealers,Harley support hurricane performance heads would likely need rebuild after 5000 miles. if your right I'm kicking my butt.... they could have given me considerably more power .... dealer talked me out of it... geeze
