Anyone Have Experience with '10 FXDWG Starter Removal?
I need to replace my starter. I hit the start button and nothing but loud rapid click, click, clicks. So I pulled out my handy dandy official like HD 2010 FXD service manual. And proceeded to follow the instructions, only to find out that the instructions are for the wrong starter. According to the manual there are two things that aren't true about this starter.
1) There is supposed to be a starter cover with a center screw.
2) The primary cover shouldn't need to be removed (as there is no mention of this in the service manual). And the starter should just pull out from the right side once the mounting bolts, positive battery cable and solenoid wire are remove and/or disconnected.
SO... I removed the Primary cover expecting to find a nut that has to be removed to release the starter clutch assembly. No dice. No nut. But the starter gear is DEFINITELY connected to the starter through the primary case.
So here are a couple pictures. Anyone have a clue what needs to be done here?
thanks in advance.

Thanks. I always take a suggestion that I may not have seen a detail. You're right the starter cover is asterixed. It's also figure 7-28, not 7-22.
That being said, it doesn't seem to to have an effect on the disassembly or explain why the manual makes no mention of having to deal with the starter drive assembly shaft being anchored behind the primary.
Any suggestion on solving that problem?
Thanks for your help.

Got it...
In the final analysis, It took a few well placed taps with a hammer from the primary side. At the top of the starter housing, there is a recess that I fit a #2 screw driver into, and the a couple well placed medium taps with a hammer pushed the housing fully out.
I you guys want a picture or two I'll post. But thanks for your help, Anton, with the exploded view.
