Street Bob Fork Oil
Guys,
Sorry, i need your help again. i thought while the front end was off i would change the fork oil. The workshop manual says i need a 16oz bottle.
i purchased a 1/2L, however, when i emptied the fork ( only done one so far), from the top not the drain screw, a whole litre of oil has come out?
So, how much oil should be in each fork leg with standard springs and while i'm here, will fitting the wider trees and 16" fat bob wheel be ok with the standard quantity.
Many thanks.
Mandi

If memory serves, you have a 2010, correct?
IF you have a '10 you've got 49mm fork tubes, and those hold a bit more than 16 ounces.
With stock springs, washer, and spacer the FXDB holds 28.6 ounces - 845cc per tube; that's equal to a 3.74" - 96mm fluid height when measured with the spring, washer, and spacer removed and the slider compressed.
With my Wide Glide and 49mm tubes I buy 2 liters of 15wt; I'll only have a bit left in the second bottle when I'm done...
And, edited to add: the 49mm tubes don't have a drain screw; you need to remove them and dump the fluid out. I'll leave my tubes inverted overnight to completely remove all the old fork fluid...
