Default Best CAM for 2014 Street Bob 103"

Hey All,

Im sure there's a bunch of threads going on here about cams but I figured a new and up to date post could help a lot of us, so I think. Since I couldn't find any fairly new posts, I figured I'd ask again.

I've got a 2014 Street Bob 103"
I'm running the Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather intake paired with 2-1 ThunderHeader. I've got the TTS Master Tune.

I'm looking for a good set of CAMS to give me the BEST BANG without head work etc.

Ideally, I'd like to run HP and TQ over 100's if possible.

My riding style is a cross between cruising and aggressive. I have no problem getting on the throttle especially around my cousins built 103 who always wants to race me. I ride 2 up at times but not a lot. I've been paying attention to my RPM ranges lately and I'm usually between 2000 RPM and 3500 RPM. I rarely go above that.

I'd like to find a set of cams that will give me good TQ and HP. I know, take one and forget the other right? But, I recently read up on the S&S 635 HO cams that returned about 117 HP and 108 TQ.

Anyone have any Cams they're running with similar set up and have any advice?

I'm no expert here so all responses are greatly appreciated!

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Some great info on Cams within the engine mechanical forum. For recommendations it's generally good to know about your riding style, but also what future plans you may have.

From a plug and play standpoint, a lot of people here like the Andrews 57h (I had them for a while and liked them). Some really nice S&S cams for drop in as well (MR103 I think).

Although I hate to deliver unrealistic numbers to you. Your stock 103 generally is somewhere around 65-70hp I think. Doing Cams only won't bring you the kind of numbers you're hoping for. When I did my cams only with aftermarket exhaust and high flow air cleaner I got to 84hp 100tq. To get much higher you're going to want to look at head work, increasing cubes, etc. I know the Thunderheader is a nice pipe, but I don't believe it's one of the best when it comes to power generation (albeit I don't know this for a fact).

Ride safe and once again welcome!

Thank you! I'm just trying to see what everyone's opinions and advice to offer is. I've been looking up the S&S 635 HO cams and the return looks to be ideal. I would like to avoid Head Work if possible and hoping a good cam will make me happy. I've got a 103 and want to feel its power. Right now I feel like there's much more potential in this motor than what I'm getting.

Thank you, I'm hoping for something I can drop in without getting too crazy. I AM open to other work if it's not too much. I'm no expert so I'm not too sure what increasing compression consists of.

I found the S&S 635 HO cams for $245 so I'm hoping they'll be a good fit. If not, hoping some good suggestions for some others.

I've got a set of mr103 cams I just removed from my breakout. You can count on mid 90s hp, and close to 110 tq. My dyno said 98/112. That was one of the higher mr103 dynos with all else stock parts besides the tune, pipe, and stage 1 a.c. I'll sell them cheap with 9000 miles on them. I'm in the process of building a 124. Nothing wrong with the cams. I just reread your post and as low of an operation rpm you run I would go with Andrews 48.

How happy with these were you? How was the power through low mid and high range of RPM?

I don't mind opening up the throttle at all, I just find myself cruising at that RPM range. I'd rather have something that can pull strong throughout range vs something that will only let me rip from bar to bar. MR103 sounds better for opening up and Andrews sounds more for low end so far. Or am I wrong>?

honestly I didn't have any complaints, low end was better than stock , mid and high was Damn good. I 've ridden 2 up in the mountains and it was just fine.
