Default Raceteck Gold Valve and springs report

Got down to the roughest twist road I know. forks worked well. I was unable to bottom them out unlike last month with my stock forks..some as the prefer the softer .95 springs. I have the 1.0's and they are just a bit firm. The .95's would probably be more like a soft cadillac ride. Mine are more like a slighly firmer europeon suspension.

ps My stock fork did not even have dust caps but they do now.

Thanks for the update, How much do you weigh? I weigh 210 without gear. I am on the fence as to .95 or 1.0 springs. I think my stock front suspension will bottom out running over certain strains of bacteria.

I was on the fence too. Same weight. Since I could not bottom out the 1.0 working it really hard. If I had to do it again I would choose little softer ride with .95. I cannot believe you will ever bottom it. That other guy I think its Ranchman or something like that use the .95 even though it called for 1.0. He seems to like his.

Thanks again, that's what I've been thinking too-the .95s are what I will go with.

I pulled my forks today and made a box for them. I'll send them to Racetech tomorrow for them to install the spring and cartridge kit. I am not sure about how to re install them at the correct height with the headlight and nacelle still on the bike but will try and figure that our when I get them back.

Thank you 69800 I have the factory service manual but for me wrenching on the bike is seldom easy. I have read and re-read the fork installation and think I can make a plate with a pin that will locate the forks by holding the plate on the fork cap and having the pin fit in the space between the cap and headlight cowling with the pin set at the correct distance and contacting the triple tree. Sound clear as mud?

Just to follow up. My only complaint after my racetech install is Chatter while cruising on roads that are not perfectly smooth asphalt. (oil mat back roads) After reading alot and talking to my installer we have come to the following conclusion. He set my preload up at 35mm which is pretty much maximum. We are going to reduce that to 25mm. I do have 4 holes in the emulator already but he used the yellow 64lb spring with the adjustment set to 2 clicks firm. We are going to change to a blue 40lb spring with 4 clicks of firmness. He also believes the oil wieght and level have more to do with larger travel behavior and less to do with chatter so we will leave that alone at 140 mm. I will be doing all this March 6 2018 and will report back in March.

First off it's not clicks, it's turns for preload with the emulators.. You are running 2 turns on the yellow spring going to 4 turns on the blue.

IMO, I think you suspension tuner guy is wrong.. Wheel skipping on a rough road is likely not enough low speed damping if the skipping is not transferred to the rider. If you feel the skipping in the bars I would check front wheel / tire balance and true first then look into shock problems. Oil damping way too high or the forks are binding..

At this point it I'd have to ask what oil viscosity was used and what you used for damping rods? Assuming you had a Switchback, they had a cartridge in one side so it would have been replaced. Looking at the parts diagram I would have to ask if the switchback fork tubes even have the rebound valving or did they rely on all the damping to be done by the cartridge? I've not ever seen the inside of those forks.

YES, as mention before....thicker fork oil and heavy duty springs.
I also raised the front end +2" with the springs and oil and worked excellently for me.
