My bike is set for solo riding... and in less than 5 minutes, I can be set for 2-up touring... I'm flexible like that.. 
When we got married here a couple years ago, I showed her the 2-up seat, and told her.. "this is yours, it doesn't go on the bike unless you want it there, and if anybody else wants to ride with me, they have to ask you, to use your seat"
I have no problems...
