At 3 3/4" long not sure....Cadmium overall and chromate plated steel at 160,000 PSI no real advantage over polished 17-4 180,000 PSI except you have to drill a few holes.

Here's evidence we need to listen to Bob. Even with a locking system that prevented the bolts from backing out, an inadequate pulley design and bolts still sheered.

To continue my recent carnage story - Two of my rear pulley bolts backed out and were then sheared off by the swingarm. This was right after my Indy replaced both tires recently. I speculate that my Indy re-torqued the bolts when the back wheel was off, only to knock the bolts loose from their previously loctited positions. The backed-out and sheared-off bolts tore up the pulley - a 1 year only part for 2006 which costs me $500+ to replace. Then, just yesterday, I noticed that one of the two bolts holding the lower front fork cap (which holds the front axle in place) was missing, and the second bolt, along with the cap, was backed out 1/2 inch. Guess who f-'d up that one as well? Needless to say, this Indy won't be seeing me again.

Hmm ... can you post MUCH BIGGER Pics?

EDIT: Nevermind, I hadn't seen that you posted the Biggins also in the "Other" Thread

So when was the last time you checked them?

Checked what exactly? They had a locking system on them and hadn't backed out at all if that's what you are wondering.

Did HD make the locking system?

No, but the bolts had not backed out. The locking system would have broke and it did not.

So I guess your problem is that you think the only way the bolts can come loose is by backing out.

Oh, they can come out other ways but all of them are usually referred to as "a massive failure!".

Aside from that, is anyone else noticing how many of these failures are chrome plated bolts. I think someone a while back said he thought the plating process might be making the bolts soft. I'm not too sure about that but, they do all break at the base of the threads. I believe the pulley is rotating on the hub putting a side load on the bolts, causing the failure. This is probably due to the poor fit of the body of the bolt in the hub and rotor.

Didn't somebody drill their hub and rotor for an alignment pin a while back?
