V&H pro pipe vs. hi-output 2-into-1 short pipe?
I love the look of the short pipe, but hear the longer, pro-pipe will have better performance. both are stepped, but the pro-pipe I think has an additional step or just the length in general. I also like the sharper sound I think the short pipe will give.
I messaged vance & hines and they said the performance difference is considerable. anyone have experience with either? my other major concern is ground clearance...hard to tell from photos. do they sit the same? does one or the other hang lower? thanks for any input! |
I know for a fact the original version scrapes
the shorty version will be louder and given its length would most likely move the power band and to the right, Backfiring would have to be tuned out as well. The long version has great low end and the baffle can be modified by a competent tuner for max performance. |
Why are you only considering these two exhausts as options?

the pro-pipe sits a long way out from bike and will scrape if ride hard
this can lead to broken mount and also broken head exhaust studs, so you have to keep an eye on that the pro-pipe is a bargain "best bang for buck" pipe for a 2-1, got best mix by putting couple of hose clamps on baffle and also drilling the holes in the plug |

Happy with the Pro Pipe and got it for a Great Price only Tuning I had to do was raise the Jet Numbers up a bit and adjust the turns out on the CV Carb .. It can scrape but really have to lean into to make that happen .. The length and quality of suspension counts here ..

google some, the end cap is pot metal, and the baffle is sheet metal inside the pipe, so you can take that baffle off and play with it A LOT, i had two baffles.
i removed the cap on the end so exhaust would not have to make a 90 degree turn to get out. i wrapped the baffle with a tin can & all kind of stuff. |
Love my Propipe...
I have been very happy with my Propipe 2 into 1 over the last couple of years. {Check the sig pic above} Great performance upgrade especially when married to the Screaming Eagle High-Performance AC and supported by the V&H Fuelpak{FP3} Tuner. Can you say "Stage One?"
I am not a peg scraping kind of guy, too old for that, so no issues with the Propipe dragging. Awesome sound, yep it is loud but in a very good way. |

^ we've ran V&H on all our builds in the past and love the quality.
on top of that, I like how the heat shields run all the way up to the heads, hiding that ugly purple/ashy discoloration that happens to cerekote after alot of riding. I am also on considering the two-brother gen 2 pipe but, the heat shields only go so high. performance is #1, but we also want this to looks great too after the hard riding we do, and we are set on black pipes. |
