Default Need to Replace Rear Axle ('07) - Install '08 Axle?

I removed the rear wheel to have a new tire installed. The rear axle nut galled the rear axle and I need to replace both. (I had to use my impact gun to even get the nut off.) I understand that '08 and later used a different axle. Is it worth retrofitting my '07 for the later style axle? I looked up the parts and the swing arm is the same. I would need the axle, nut, spacers and two wheel bearings. Of course, if the new bearing won't fit my wheel, then it is game over.

Ask the parts counter what bearings comes in a 08 plus dyna. I don’t know if they are the narrow ones or wider double row bearings. My 08 fat bob has the 62052rs bearings in them. It’s a 25mm axel. I put 08 switchblade wheels on and used the same axel. Bearings were the same to.
So in saying that. If you got the wider bearings in the 07 then I would run those rather than update.

The '07 used p/n 9247 and the '08 and later is showing 9276. Now as far as OD, I don't know.

Wheel bearings od will be the same from 2000 up so don’t be worried bout that. It’s the width you have to be worried about. I’m thinking you are running the wider bearings. So unless you feel like getting some bearing spacers made for your wheel so you can take up the extra room from wide to skinny bearings I would just stay with what you got.

Your 9247 is 1” wide everything else is 15mm wide.
So you need a .410” wide spacer. Plus new axel spacers. Personally not worth the effort.
Now I own a machine shop so this wouldn’t be a big deal. But for most people you gotta soarce a shop and figure your dimensions.

save the headache and replace the stock 1" axle with a stock (or bikers choice) 1" rather than drop to 25mm.

So, if I understand correctly, the '07 and earlier is 1" and the '08 and later is 25 mm. Interesting in terms of what the MoCo was thinking, as I don't see how a difference in 0.4 mm (0.016") makes a difference. I am guessing someone decided a slight reduction in weight made a difference in unsprung mass. I don't know.

My bet...metric bearings are cheaper
