chrome dash bolts
 

I have an 06 wide glide. the two bolts that hold the dash to the tank are steel while the rest of the face is chrome. I have looked and looked and can't seem to find either a cover cap or a chrome bolt to replace them with. They are 3/16 hex head bolts. Anyone with any suggestions?

harley has snap in ones .i have them on mine. they are in like a 10 pack . sorry,i have no part # .

I would double check the size - 3/16" doesn't sound right. Below 1/4", bolts are numbered (#10, #12 etc) I believe.

Try Ace hardware. They are not cheap but the largerstores have a large selection of chrome hardware.

Ace Hardware has them,button head with allenhead opening and the inserts to cover the opening.Like the look better without the buttons but one of mine rusted inside the opening.If you want more chrome get the speedo cover and the indicator panel cover from Harley.

Now I'm told that clear fingernail polish applied after a chrome allenhead bolt is installed will prevent rust,only problem is I'm always between women when I need some so Ihave to live withthe rust. I went to buy some fingernail polish one time and this swishy guy at cosmetics counter wanted to know if he could help me,sweety and I told him to go F himself and he started squeling like a little girl and the security guard came running up and by the time it was all over I was lucky to get out of there without going to jail and I still didn't get my clear fingernail polish.[:@]

Those screws are5/16-18 x 1 1/4" button heads. 3/16" is the allen wrench size.
They're $1.75 ea at boltdepot.com, but shipping is $8!!

Murphdog is right about the size. I was able to by mine at the stealers and save on shipping. You can also use 5/16 X 24 X 1 1/4 They use a sheet metal clip so the thread pitch isn't important.

Have any of you thought of going to your local hardware store and buying STAINLESS STEEL bolts??? Takes about 3 minutes per bolt on a buffing wheel and they shine just like and BETTER in most cases than the cheap azz Harley bolts you buy from the dealer. On the allen head stainless bolts they have little lines in them, chuck them up in a drill press and I use a file to remove the lines, then some emmery cloth to remove the file marks and then buff them. A chrome bolt is like $2 a piece for the small allen ones, I think I paid .25 cents or .30 cents for the stainless ones. And they dont rust!

These are the stainless bolts I polished up to fill the bolt holes where the passenger peg mounts went into the swing arm:

These are all stainless bolts around the primary cover and the derby cover bolts that I polished.....
