Default FXR twin cam conversion

I have a ‘99 FXR2, and a Low Rider S. I absolutely love them both differently, for different reasons. And I’d never molest them, especially the FXR2 as it’s all original and 1 of 263 in the US (or maybe the world?)

Anyway, the one thing I don’t like on the FXR2 is the lack of ABS. So I got a crazy idea that I’d like to find a beat up or even dead FXR just for the frame and tins, and maybe a totaled ABS twinkie and transplant the entire drivetrain to the FXR. I know there’d be a lot of fabrication, esp around the motor mounts, but I can’t think of anything that would make it not work, can anyone?

It would give me an easy boost in power, EFI, ABS, I could get easy to obtain 49mm forks with dual discs (something I really want on my FXR, but won’t do to keep it original) so I could use some Ohlins carts, I could go on...

Any reason this can’t work?

I guess it’ll be easier then I expected....

Seems like a lot of what I’ll need is right there.

Having a low s and a fxr, does the fxr handle better? Just curious because you have both.

It definitely handles better. Substantially. So light feeling, it just flips around so easily. Putting good fork cartridges in it would be amazing I think.

Yes IMHO, a well put together FXR will outperform a like built S just due to the frame geometry and engine mounting.

My references:

Nope it’ll definitely work. Do it right and get the SDC oil pan and don’t hack up the frame. I’d also suggest a S&S crate 111” or 124” and a Baker 6 speed.

Evos pretty bulletproof but if you want the ABS then pony up for the SDC or Deviant Fab oil pan.

Is the swing arm mounted to the frame on the FXR and to the tranny on the TC?
