How are you liking the FatBoy as compared to the LRS? I've been toying with moving on from the Switchback. Haven't test ridden any of the Softails (for fear of pissing off my wallet), but I've test ridden the RK and SGS and RGS. The M8 is a really nice engine, and the suspension upgrades were noticeable.
The suspension is quite honestly, amazing. You know I ALWAYS have Ohlins on every new bike within the first month, but I don't know if that's going to happen this time. The monoshock is excellent and the new Showa dual bending valve fork is a game changer from the old style. Even better then the mono cartridges that they tried in the LRS. I think a slightly higher spring rate would all my fat *** would need.
The only thing I think will challenge me is the EPA restrictions, as the SE tuner leaves much to be desired, and the SE street cannons are quite honestly only a minor upgrade in sound over the stock mufflers. It sounds OK at WOT, but cruising and idling it is very quiet. Dis-satisfyingly so. I have to come up with something that sounds better yet doesn't jeopardize my warranty. I hear Rienhart is coming up with an EPA muffler, as is S&S. I'll be looking into them.
Moving on, I do miss the fairing, while the headlight nacelle on the FBS does offer some wind protection, the cafe fairings I have/had do a much better job keeping it off your chest. I see a company that makes them for the FB, and it looks pretty good (below). I may give it a try, or a windsplitter windshield. Though I never had good luck with windshields.
Thinking about this:
So foibles aside, I am very happy with it (I would say I love it) and given the chance to do it again or not, I would unquestionably keep the FBS.
