Well, not necessarily. A hollow tube is much lighter and stronger then a solid one. Trusses are stronger and lighter then a regular beam. All from same material. Strength and design are correlated.

Maybe 9 spoke mags would be lighter than my 13s?
(but then, how to make 'em fit?)
I'll have to check Multihdrdr's thread.

I think wheels from 00-05 should fit without mod

THIS is Multi's thread. I don't think it's gonna help much but maybe if you ask him nicely he can dig up some weight data for ya.

Okay, then how about the rotor or stator?
There seems to be plenty of lighter and more powerful replacements for jap bikes.

I can't recall ever seeing or hearing about that. Cycle Electric is the go-to for uprated and replacement charging components for Harley but I've never looked into what they offer.

I had a quick look on their web site. Looks like quality stuff, but no mention of lightweight.

Okay, so at risk of this becoming another lightening thread,
CGGorman, I'm curious about your lighter seat (I'm pondering the concept of air pockets like goalie pads) and I'd love to see some pics of your bike.

Right now it's a custom solo aluminum pan with 1/2" of neoprene padding and leather cover. Rigid mounting. Rocket Bob's made the pan and I did the rest. I may switch to a carbon fiber pan at a later date, but I like the polished aluminum peaking out the rear and the weight savings going to carbon would only be a couple pounds. I'm quickly reaching the practical limit for weight savings.

Lots more pics in my build thread (link in sig)

I changed so much at once that there is really no fair way to compare before and after. It's literally and figuratively a completely different bike. The brakes are definitely night and day. Handling is a bit hard to judge with regard to weight since I added some rake and quite a bit of rotating mass and tire width up front. Roll geometry and gyroscopics are way different now. Steering seems slower and heavier but it's super stable and solid.

I never had a specific performance metric in mind when I started this build. I just wanted to build a clean, cool bobber/hopper/muscle bike. The lightening was just sort of a natural byproduct. Still have a ways to go before it's "done'.
