Default Quick question for J&S lift owners

I'll strap the bike to the lift, but will the whole thing remain stable if I remove the front end while lifted?

It is pretty stable, however I always throw a block or something under the rear wheel as insurance.

Thanks for the response. That's a good idea, although I like it to be somewhat mobile while I work on stuff... Maybe I'll put my Sears jack under the back tire, then it will still be on wheels. I've had the front wheel, brakes, and fender off, and it seems stable. But I've never taken the forks off before.

It will probably be close. My modded HF was serviceable with the entire front end off (including tank) but I don't know if would have wanted to be moving it around much.

I believe the J&S is wider than the HF at the casters, so you should be better than I was.

Thanks, Chris. Last time I had my rear wheel off (tire puncture), I used my Sears jack to lower it out of the swingarm. I think I'll position it in the same place and leave it there.

I just did the same thing with the front wheel today, not because it's really heavy, but because it allowed the axle to slide out really easily. I really don't like banging on things that go through bearings, if avoidable.

I doubt you are going to remove the whole front end all at once. As you take parts off you can see how the balance is F/R. If it gets a little tippy toward the rear like mentioned just drop a block of wood or 2 under the rear tire. A cinder block brick might work also. Worst case the bike pops a wheelie while on the jack until the rear tire hits the ground. It shouldn't fall over to the side.

JFKS: Overland Park, Kansas? If you see a guy wearing a beautifully broken-in size 42 Schott Model 141 leather jacket, tackle him for me. That jacket was stolen from me in a hotel lobby in Overland Park about five years ago... I had owned it for at least 25 years at that point!

I still want it back!!!

Haha... I don't recall seeing any Mongols at the Starbucks counter in the Marriott lobby that morning... Or maybe I just missed the "No Colors" sign...

Ya? I know the area. My work is about a half mile from the Marriott.
