Default Rear Shock Recommendation for 2017 Fat Bob FXDF

Hello All,

I am looking for new rear shocks for my 2017 Fat Bob FXDF. I was hoping I could benefit from the experience of this group and get some recommendations.

I think the stock rear shock is 12" (305mm) eye to eye. I was thinking of a 13" (330mm) or more to help my cornering clearance. (My lower muffler often drags on right hand turns). This is my first priority.

My second priority is for a bit more comfortable ride two up.

I would love to hear what you have done to your Dyna and see any pictures.

I was going to look at Progressive and Hagon and maybe Drag Specialties.

Here is a picture of my stock Harley rear shocks. They look great, but they are not great two up. Oh, I have them set in position 5.

.

Thanks.

I had considered Hagon and Ohlins for my Fat Bob but ultimately went with the Bitubo shocks that DK Customs has.
I've only had a few solo rides on them so far but it's been a noticeable difference.
In between them and the stiffer front springs that I installed at the same time the entire bike feels way more solid.
I'll try to get a pic up in a bit and will try to report back once I get a chance to ride two up.

Do it once....do it right. OHLINS.

You'll never contemplate another shock after this. 2up, twisties, slow cruising on bumpy roads. It does it all. Worth the investment in my opinion. Comfort is the most important.

I went with 13”, had considered taller but was wanting to not have to raise the front. I may end up bringing it up about an inch eventually though.

Ohlins were defintely high on my list of choices but the price shot up quite a bit if looking at their black shocks. If you don’t mind satin silver they have some reasonably priced options.

OHLINS Info....
Part Number: HD 220
Type Code: S36E
Length: 13.4 inches (340 mm)
Stroke: 3.5 inches (88 mm)
Spring: 21180-01 (B)
MSRP$ 600.00

3.5 inches of travel is pretty good. $600 is getting closer to my target also.

Google them. Call Howard and talk to him about Ohlins. He's a sponsor here and will get you set up for your needs.
