Default Anybody tried the Kenda Cataclysm tires?

My son is looking for a low cost rear tire for his 09 FXDC, they are a dual compound to enhance cornering grip & get relatively good wear, it's their latest generation tire.

May or may not be relevant to tires, but it's all I got...

I've used Kenda tubes because that's all I could find, Based on my small sample size, quality control seems a bit lacking. 1 of 3 had the valve stem in the wrong location. They REEK of Chinese rubber....it's a familiar smell, you know it when you smell it. I might have concerns with dry rot and ozone/UV breakdown if they were exposed to light or air...but, of course, they're not.

Otherwise, they are doing the job fine.

How do Shinko tires compare in price? Those are a known entity.

I Googled, and found very few reviews, But, the following tells me all I need to know about them. Sorry, but, your sons life is worth more than the few $ you’ll save versus premium brands.

Tires are one thing I would never skimp on. If he's looking for sticky, I'm running the Bridgestone T31 Battlax, relatively inexpensive and a known brand...165 for stock rear dyna size on Revzilla, hooks like a ****. The only thing connecting you to the road - not worth saving a few bucks IMO.

Sounds like the perfect tire, if you mostly ride on the dark side of the moon!

Thanks for the opinions, but I was looking for experience with them.

I wish I could help you but my experience with Kenda was with earlier models. I was not impressed. They didn't stick well and I got a bubble in one. The Shinkos I'm using now hook up amazing. They're on par with a tire like the Dunlop k591.

When I had my CBR the dealer ordered me the wrong tire and I ended up with a bridgestone battlax bt003 I think it was. It was basically a racing tire with some small rain grooves. They didn't want to send it back so they gave me a deep discount. Holy **** that thing hooked. The same corners I rode to work every day I suddenly was going through them 20 mph faster. Sadly, the tire only lasted me 1300 miles before I needed a replacement lol. But tires can make a huge difference in performance!

More on the point, I think the OP is having a hard time finding reviews on them because most people are willing to spend the extra $50 to get a good quality name brand tire for their motorcycle. I would not ride for a week or 2 until I could save the extra money for a better tire if it came down to that.
