Is a bottom tier Ohlins better than a top tier other brand though? I don’t want to buy just for the brand reputation.

I'm only familiar with a few different brands. All the ones I had were crap compared to my lower tier Ohlins.

Ohlins make a lot of different tier shocks. I have a lower tier Ohlin shock and they were around $600.

Best shock I've ridden so far and they're rebuildable. So you'll never have to buy another set.

Spend what you can afford and you can get a decent set of Ohlins.

Talk to Howard at Motorcycle Metal. He'll set you up right.

depends on the brand. Every year there are more and more brands bringing top tier stuff to the table. Rwd rs1 and odc monza 2.0 piggybacks to name a few. What ohlins have over them is a pedigree many of these shocks haven’t been subjected to thru time. I might get some rs1’s in 14 for my soon to be fxr just to try them out

Default Ohlins

Go for the lower price Ohlins or if possible get the 13" 772s...Great shocks.

Thanks for the info!

Looks like the 772 is for FXR/touring bikes. Other comparable options though for sure. Looks like the best setup for my bike would be the Ohlins HD 816. Would like all black, but the “blackline” shocks look like they only come in 12” unless I go piggyback and pay a fortune.

Doesn’t anyone have any experience with Racing Bros shocks. Called Racing Bros Mono R Bazooka. A local shop recommended them and they come in at a great price. I guess it’s a collaboration with hard drive shocks. They also come in a piggyback setup too. Any insight would be appreciated!

Man I wish I hadn't seen this post. I'm looking for shocks on a budget right now too and was pretty much ready to order the Drag ones to get me through until I can afford something better. These are also in my budget though so now I have to do a bunch of research before I make up my mind haha

I hope you dont mind me jumping in on an existing thread rather than starting a new one; I'll edit if you do mind. Im also currently searching for 13" (or higher) rear shocks, in chrome. I think im gonna order the Progressive 444's but wanted to first see first if there is anything of higher quality available - that is at least 13" and in chrome? Any recommendations are appreciated. I see a lot of nice higher end stuff but not in chrome. Open budget.
