Corrosion resistant black bolts for engine

Has anyone found a good source for corrosion resistant black bolts for engine cases? Or even a good corrosion coating that is black? I know of black oxide arp, which rust quickly, and I’ve heard horror stories( bolts snapping and messed up threads etc) of black chrome kit from drag specialties. I’m wary of using stainless due to galling and because I want black but I don’t like the look of plane zinccoated grade 8 Allen’s that came stock.

I put gloss black nail polish on all the bolts

It holds up ok with the heat and everything? Any particular type?

i can get you a picture of the bottle when I get home, but it’s like gel enamel or something. I’ve got it on literally every bolt just to “black it out” but it holds up fine. Directly on the rocker box bolts, on the exhaust bracket bolts right behind the hot pipe. Holds up fine...and id it ever chips, easy touch up.

Have you googled titanium bolts? They normally come in any color you want but they are pricey....

yea I’d love to do the whole thing in titanium but they are way too expensive to justify.

Maybe duracoat? Supposed to be sprayed on but their instructions say small areas can be brushed on. It's for firearms so the heat shouldn't be an issue.

Good idea! I've used Cerakote on guns with excellent results. It's very thin once cured (I sprayed it on with an airbrush) and extremely durable. I was initially thinking powder coat but that's pretty thick and might cause issues with socket/wrench fitment. Ceramic coating would be better.

Duracoat looks like it just may be the solution! I’ll be taking off quite a bit to do top end soon so I may spay them while they’re off. I’ll either paint it on the others or try the fingernail polish.

Spray the SS screws with any dry lube like a chain wax or even a little syn engine oil. Guarantee it won't gall in aluminum.
