The only reason I was hoping that the factory shoes looked good enough to go another 5K is because another project (87 jeep wrangler) eat up all my winter time wrench time and toy money. now riding season is here and my bike isn't ready.

So I will need to buy Cyco shoes, The installation tool, James gasket cam cover gasket, and either adjustable push rods or top end gaskets?

Have any of you installed the Rockout rocker silencer kit? if so is it worth the extra work?

Don't worry about the tool for holding the tensioners, or for rotating them. I had no trouble rotating them carefully by hand, with a little careful assist from a screwdriver or small pry bar. Once in position, I dropping a roofing nail into the holes to keep them in place. It worked perfectly.

EDIT: Looking through my old pictures, I see I used a combination wrench w/extension as T-handle to move the tensioners. It worked really easily, now that my memory is refreshed!

And here's the roofing nail:

These were mine at 24,000.

Honestly, yours don’t look all that bad, unless the inner is chewed. One more season should be ok, but would replace if it all possible since you’re in there.

I have an extra set of inner cam bearings (B-148) in the wrapper taking up space in the toolbox. PM your address when you get more than 5 posts and they’re yours. Like to see them keep another old hog on the road.

Of course "No Guarantees" ... but personally after seeing the condition of your shoes, I wouldn't be hesitant (i.e. wouldn't worry me at all) about slapping the cover back on and "buying some time" until you're ready to make the swap

If you didn't damage it, you shouldn't even need a new cam cover gasket

Agree with the Above but will point out " No Guarantees " But if the Rear Tensioner looks as good as the front think you will be safe until can afford to do it all the Right Way .. I changed mine right after bought my 05 with 17,000 Miles and they didn't look bad , but had the funds at the time to get it all done then so went for it ..

I agree with them. Shoes look good considering the mileage on them. You can probably get another 5-10K out of them so I don't think it's anything you need to address immediately.
