twin cam 88 cam chain tensioner

I am in the process of my 20k service on my 03 wide glide and trying to decided if my cam chain tensioners need to replaced or if they can make it another 5K. what do you all think? t couldn't really get a picture of the inside shoe, but it looks to be worn about as much as the outside shoe.

By the looks I would say no. They get brittle with age and hot oil, so... they could go 20 miles or 20,000 miles. Drive it until the next service while you get ready to replace them and bearings. No warranty on that last statement.

Search through "Engine Mechanical Topics" on a whole lot of info TC 88 Cyco pads.

You went through the trouble of taking a look...probably the hardest part of the job. Just get a pair of cyco shoes and some koyo bearings and you won't have to worry about it for another 30k.

What he said ^

This is what OEM shoes do regardless of how much material is left on them. In my opinion, leaving OEM shoes inside an early TC88 (at any mileage) is one of the most foolhardy things someone can do to a perfectly good motorcycle.

I will add that at 20K your bike has a nice set of polished chains for little wear on the shoes. Make sure they rotate the same way going back together.

I would get those spring tensioners out of there and upgrade to hydralic tensioners like that came on the 06. It is 88" with hydralic tensioners.

As everyone else has said... Might last longer might not.
You do have the choice of hydraulic and gears though... I went gears as not to worry about it again.
My tensioner was in five pieces and that was just the front. The rear one was intact but it was fractured right down the center and had it came apart, that might have been a wee bit of a mess.

While you're in there- Cyco shoes, install good cam bearings, a set of mild cams & new lifters. Your cam chest will be squared away & the bike will run like it should have from the factory.

+1 on this one .. If not the Cyco Shoes, at least do the Hydraulic Upgrade that includes the Higher Pressure Fueling Pump , every thing else above in full agreement with ..
