Default What the hell are all these seeds?

I was doing some minor maintenance on the bike and I when I took the dash off the tank, thousands of these seeds poured out. What are they, where did they come from, and how the hell did they get in there? Looks like bird food 🤷

I'm completely perplexed how they got into a sealed area though.

It's not as sealed as you think. Small animals can get almost anywhere.

Mice , get a cat , those little ****** will gnaw on wires. Their teeth grow so quickly they must constantly be chewing on stuff to wear them down .

Yep. Anyone remember the thread where the guy posted pictures of one of his engine cylinders filled with those seeds? He was a farmer, and parked his bike in the barn for the winter. The pipes where up against some hay bales, and one of the exhaust valves was open. Over the winter a mouse or something had filled the cylinder with seeds. When he tried to start it in the spring the engine wouldn't turn at all. Took him a while to figure it out.

Those are Dyna Alignment Beads. They shift around while riding, keeping the engine, tranny, and swingarm dynamically aligned at all times.

When your bike was at the mechanics and he had a dash off, he felt sorry for the birds, so he put some birdseed in there to feed them. Figuring you’re going to be back sooner or later, he just left the seeds there so he can easily pop off the dash and feed the birds again

: )

I have a cat that is an excellent bug catcher. That being said, my bike is 100% garage kept except when I ride it. Not saying my garage is without mice.

The more I think about it, there was a time when I found a bag of bird seed had been compromised at the bottom a couple seasons ago. I guess this stuff has been in there a while.

Naw, he just needs to buy some peppermint spray. Pests hate that smell. One spray treatment will last only about a week before you need to do it again, but it`s still worth the effort. Plus, peppermint to humans is pleasant and doesn`t smell "perfumey".
