Default Recommended shop for Cat removal?

Greetings,

Both my wife and I have Switchbacks bought new in Oct 2013.

My bike has a V&H Pro Pipe, but she's running a stock exhaust and the heat from the catalytic converter has literally caused blisters on the underside of her thigh. I've read some FLD owners have taken the headpipe out for removal of the cat.

Wondering if anyone can recommend a shop that will handle this? We're in Bergen County, NJ.

That's typically a DIY project. Don't know if your going to find a shop willing to do that. Check out U-tube there are a few tutorials on how to do it. I just watched one on your specific bike (sorry watched it on my phone so I can't give the link).

You're going to have to do it your self or know somebody at a shop to get it done. If I remember right it's a $10,000 fine per converter if a shop is caught taking them out. Most arent going to risk that to make a hundred bucks or so off you.

LOL, that was my first suggestion, but she likes the stock exhaust, and she likes that it's quiet. I'm trying to persuade her to go that route. We found a local shop that might do it though. She's off today and has the head pipe from my bike with her. We'll see what happens.

With an angle grinder and a screwdriver I was able to cut out a rectangular window, and chisel out the CAT.
I brought it to a local guy and asked him to weld the window back on the pipe. I think he might have charged me $40.

Default Decat

The best way to do it is to cut the cat open and remove the guts and then weld it back together. Around here that about a $125.00 job. Your wife won't like it though, as the cat makes the bike quieter. With it removed, it will be louder but cooler.

Default New Pipe

She would be much better off with, at least new mufflers on the decatted head pipe and with baffles in the mufflers.
