Your dyna is single fire.

From the description..

"Electronic. Note: For dual fire Sportster, Big Twin."

It will also work on systems that have a RPM output from the ignition module..

You will need one of these.

From the drag specialties catalog. I'm sure bikers choice has one..

I've used these style tachs on EVOs from drag, custom chrome and autometer. Fortunately for me I had a tach output.. I've not had to use the adapter.

Serial data.. hmmm wonder if thats the tach
Tachometer data is on the serial line but is encoded in a bit stream similar to the network connection on your home computer but much simpler and slower.

Yeah, the info I gave was for a serial data tach that gets it's reading from the ECM. For your tach you would not tie in to the wiring harness as I described.

One thing to note is that I'm not sure how well the adapters work on the newer coils. The Dynatech one is likely nothing more than a couple diodes. In that case, it may not work at lower RPMs where the dwell time is short.. On points stuff and early module stuff where the coil resistance is 3 ohms or more, dwell time is long. Newer stuff used 1/2 ohm coils which mean the saturation / dwell time is short. The Baron one might work tho..

This may or may not help.. Fast forward to the .45sec mark, the wiring kit should make it plug'n play for you.

^^^ Neat kit but that is for the HD serial data tach, not a universal analog tach.

My Softail has a riser mounted tac. I found a scrap of three wire cable with a black shieth that matched the one coming out of the clam shell. I had to enlarge the tack cup wire hole. I just pulled the electrical wires from it and easy feed the tac wires thru it. Goes down by neck and into tunnel passageway over motor. I only ran it till out of sight.

Looks like it came from the factory. Sure a fancy large industrial electrical outlet place would have it. Home Depot wire rack may have something to can do something similar to my scrap.
