Well the stock one you show is missing the wedge. When you say it was tight, was the hedge in place the 2 springs on the wedge completely compressed?
So you cloned the Hayden? What did you use for the shoe? How many miles do you have on it?

Top view is a disassembled stock tensioner.
When I inspected the stock tensioner was ratcheted up tight....Way Too Tight!
It was cold so when the motor and drive train come up to operating temps the chain will naturally tighten more.
Yes cloned but made of steel. First test shoe UHMW....still looking good after 3000 miles.
