Default Oil related.... FILTER issue

Anyone ever have a filter issue where it caused the bike to knock? Got the filter from a dealer in Columbia and it is going back there too! Replaced that filter with a drag speciality filter and noise stopped.

I was thinking oil pump, top end replace or replace motor... Glad I didn't over re act....

Man it was a rough day.. Almost had to use my AK..

I’ve had that with a car, but not with any of my bikes thankfully...with the car it made a sound like falling rain...

I have had a K&N oil filter weld itself to the mount/housing....

Sorry Multi
Thought I checked all the right boxes...
Have you ever seen or heard of a filter causing the knock in the top end?

Any thoughts as what should be looked at?

Ain't there a filter bypass? In the event of a clogged filter your bike will still get oil...dirty but better than nothing. I might be confused on bikes tho. What if u have a weak oil pump and a malfunctioning bypass and an oil filter that filters finer particles? What kind of filter did u have to begin with? Microns? .....no expert btw...and can't say I believe what I'm saying....just talking

I agree, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Usually, the first thing to knock due to oil starvation is the rod bearings, unless you have hydraulic lifters.

If the filter was plugged it should have gone into bypass. Not all filters have a bypass valve, but those that don't should be paired with an engine that has its own bypass valve external to the filter. If it is the right filter there should be no problem.

If the filter was plugged and there was no bypass, I'd expect the filter can to burst.

Filter didn't burst, but it did spray when I finally got it loose. Tightened it snug, but it felt like it was torqued on.
The dealer ship I got the filter from were basically useless....

The only way I can see that happening is if the outlet was 100% blocked. Should be easy to figure out if you cut the filter open.

How long did you run it like that? Did the oil light go out? (Are you sure it was the top end that was knocking?)
[Edit]Oh, I see, you didn't say the top end was knocking... You may want to do an oil analysis if you still have the oil that was in it when it was knocking.

Filter went back to the dealership...
Need to check out the k&n to see if the opening looks like the dealership one.

Hopefully was just a Bad Filter .. Been Riding a Long Time and never had a Filter Problem except a Used Bike I bought and the Filter was stuck to the Housing more than likely due to the one that changed it didn't put Fresh Oil around the Gasket Ring ..
