Default 180 wide tire kit issue solved

Here is a bit of information on the wide tire kits for Dynas. (The very thing that brought me to this forum to begin with) I did some research on this and discovered what exactly one has to have to make this conversion. You dont "need" to buy this entire "kit" from the MoCo in order to have the meaty tire in the back. You simply need to buy the following:

Inner sideplate replacement bracket PN# 59514-06 price $24.00 for2 brackets
(1 for each side of the inner fender)

and the tire

Dunlop 502GT 180/60 B17 PN#43197-04A I got mine at $150.00 from a local stealer that does 20% discount pricing on parts.

I believe this will work for You Widegliders out there too.. but check with yer stealer just to make sure)

If you want the back rest sytem however, (either rigid or stationary) then I would say go ahead and get the kit. I however have opted to use a Kuryakyn system that I saw displayed on this forum and wont need any brackets or side plates.

Thanks,
Frank.

Nice to hear, but how much clearance is there left between the tire side edge and the belt?
I planto mount a 190/50 17tire.. (200 doesn´t work I read). Could that work?

All I did was buy the tire, and mount it. Works fine, no rubbing.

People have been running the 180 without buying the kit for some time now.

I believe if you do a search, you will find that this was concluded in 2006.

Same here

Word of advice - the SE 180 is very soft and wears out fast. Mine is being replaced today (Metz ME880 - 170)after only 4500 miles.

Are you matching up the front also?

Let us know how you like that Metz tire and how it compares size wise...I'm sure the handling will be great.

I had ME880s on my last bike and loved them.

I also read about others using a low profile 180 that is normally for crotch rockets.

I was considering the 180 rear tire upgrade for my FXDC so thanks for posting your experience with it.
