What's the best rear motor mount to pair with the Predator front mount
I've been using the Predator front motor mount for a couple of years now and I think I need a rear mount that works better than the stock design because I've changed the rear mount a couple of times because it's hitting the case when I hit bumps/holes, I don't necessarely think that those rear mounts have gone bad but that they don't work that well together with the Predator. Here is my reasoning:
The stock Dyna motor mounts stretch back and forth to dampen the vibrations but the Predator only compresses (like what ALL the engine mounts of cars/bikes) so what is happenin is that the stock design compensates the front and rear position when the mounts strech and maybe that's why it doesn't hit until the mounts really go bad. So the type of rear mount that would be a perfect complement to the Predator front mount is one that only compreses and not stretches. Are there any like that out there? I know that the Kinetics Structure mounts do have separate bushings for lateral and vertical dampening but don't know if combining it with the Predator the vertical bushings will get overworked or not. Another option that I don't know if it would help or not could be to put a support in the rear to stop the trans from going further down when you hit a hole just like some products that do that for the front of the engine when doing wheelies, but I haven't seen one for the rear, maybe someone knows of one? PS: The rear mounts that I've been using lately are the Hard Drive ones that do seem to be made of a softer rubber and maybe that is causing them to stretch more that they should... |
Isn't the rear mount the swingarm bushings?

Interesting, I run a Predator and I get about 2 years out of my rear mounts. 3 rear motor mounts in about 6 years on my '98 Dyna. I bought a NOS Harley rear mount on ebay (HD no longer makes early Dyna mounts) and Taiwan mounts from JP Cycle. No difference, got 2 years out of both. I like the Predator but I too would like a better rear mount because those suckers are no fun to replace. And to Super Glidester, rear motor mount and swingarm bushings are two seperate pieces. Ideas anyone?

I have a big bear rear mount that I’m going to install tonight. It’s a much beefier piece than stock. I’ll give an update after I ride with it some.

Do you have a Predator front mount in your bike already?

I think I get that but doesn't the swing arm bolt go through the rear mount on a Dyna?
To address the OP's original question I run a stock Harley rear rubber mount with a Sputhe rear stabilizer. Also running a Predator front motor mount and have been for about ~22k miles. |

No, the swingarm mounts to the transmission which is mounted to the engine which is mounted to the frame.
