Default Gear drive question

Is it worth going to gear drive? I have heard so many different opinions now I'm confused. What are the pros and cons of doing such a thing.
Is the performance gain worth it?

Unless you change the grind of the cam, I can't imagine that there would be any "performance" change. I think the main reason for doing this is to eliminate any risk of the standard cam chain tensioners failing.

Thanks, I was thinking of going withAndrew CAMS 37. Is this a wise choice?

I had gear drive on my last cam TW31G on my 95" WG3. In terms of performance gain , you may pick up a small amount due to increased mechanical efficiency. The real advantage is peace of mind on the <07 motors when it comes to the earlier cam chain tensioner issue .

On my 07, I went with a chain drive for now , the new roller chain cams are supposed to have addressed that issue. Time will tell.

I have heard that the the 06 and later chain drive is alot better than the earlier models.

I have an 05, so I converted to Gear Drive cams. I love the seat up, its simple and reliable! I bought the S&S kit, then I had to choose cams.

I have heard alot of good things about the Andrews 37s. I bought some a year ago, but sold them and went with Head-Quarters cams instead. These cams have a broader power band than most other brands. HQ has a very good bolt in cam called the 0034 cam.

I talked to a guy that runs the Andrews 37 and he said it runs great and has loads of torque!
I have also heard that this cam is sensitve to compresion that is more that 9.6 to 1 and to run it well, one would have to have a way to pull some timing out to remove the risk of pinging.

Thanks for the input. My first concern is peace of mine, the added performance is a plus. I would pay a little more for the performance since I will be doing it any ways.

I was wondering which engine you have 88 or 96?

I love my gear drive. The peace of mind of not worrying about the tensioners anymore is priceless.

If you are going to swap cams, anyway, and need to change tensioners, the extra cost of going to gears is only about 200 bucks.

Thats what I was thinking as well, tear it apart once and get it all done at once. Would like to do the heads as well but a little to costly and really dont need it at this time.
