Default For an Engine Build are the Stock 06 Heads?

I am looking into doing a 95" build and I have heard even from talking to the Harley Parts guy that the 2006 Stock harley heads flow alot better than the older heads. I also thought I read on here that they were a 15% performance increase as compared to older heads. As far as a build goes to get me into the high 90s low 100s, would reusing the stock heads be okay? And if, so would the best thing be to just have them ported. Would the stock springs hold up? Thanks.

Am I right on what I need below?
Head choice
Gear Cam Choice
err what else?

Rap,
That is a good question. Sorry I don't have an answer for you but that is information I too would like as I own a 2006 Low Rider. In the future I will be considering doing what you are now. So, any info you get I would greatly appreciate getting. Thanks.

Bart

rap, I do believe you are getting the correct info
regarding the improved design.

More than just porting, rework the entire assembly.

As to your list of what is needed,

I would say the gear drive is not needed.

Proper cam selection needs to be matched up with
piston selection and the headwork.

Also add to your list good pipes - 2into1.

Hi perfomance clutch.

And, very important as well, a good management system
and a tuner to dial it all in for you.

Get the heads reworked. The stock 06 heads have a lot of potential, but the castings are still pretty crappy stock. Won't be anywhere closed to balanced. We saw enormous gains on the flow bench when we did mine last year.

I'd do heads and not cams, before I'd do cams and not heads.

did the 95 with the cams and not the( Heads,) which is not part of stage II kit, I alsowas not advised by HD at the time to redo the stock heads for my 06 bob...........?? My HPS and Torq went up.. not sure what replacing the Stock heads will do, but I will ask.

Well, the funny thing was the guy at the Harley parts said he would love to sell me a $1k worth of heads, but he said in reality with the 06 heads you really don't need upgraded heads. I'm just trying to get a feel from you guys. I mean if I lose 5hp and save a 1k its alright with me if I'm still in the 90s...

Well, I'd love to come out with any indy shop doing it parts labor at around 2k, but I'm willing to spend upwards of 3k to get my motor in the 90s hopefully tq in the 100s...just trying to figure out what I need to do and if I can save a grand on heads well that would help the budget...
