Default NEW TANK

I have a 1998 FXD and would like to relocate the speedo from the handlebar clamp onto the tank where it belongs. I was thinking of picking up a tank from a lowrider as I think the mount tabs ar the same. This would also alow me to use my original speedo instead of buying a new one. I just can't seem to find any info on what else is required. Has anyone else done this? Also, is there any other dash setup that uses the smaller speedo?

You can use the tanks from a 96 to 03 as pretty much a direct bolt on. this includes the wideglide tank. with a little moding you can use the 07-08 tanks as well.

R Racing, does this mean I can use a 96 to 03 for my 07 Super Gilde as well?

Was thinking of doing the same, thought I'd be stuck looking for an 06 through 08 for fit easy fit reasons.

The 07-08 tanks are longer. The front mount is the same.but you will have to make either a set of plates or something to extend to your existing bolt holes or drill a new rear mounting hole.the other concern is because the tank is shorter your seat my not fit tight against.Although I'm not positive. But if you were to use the rearmount of the tank without modifying it .Your seat would be alot closer to lining up and then for the front you might be able to use a tank lift kit to offset the front !!!! ?????

I'm not sure never having in my grubby hands an 04-05 tank. If I can get my paws I'll let you know.

Here is a pic of a 1999 FXD that I put Wide Glide tins on. I used a FXDWG speedo but J&P sells an adapter that allows you to use the smaller FXD speedo in the Wide Glide dash if you want to go that way. Pretty simple changeover. I found that the FXDWG tanks are easier to find.
