1000 mile self service VOID warranty????
Ok guys, was told by one of my local Harley dealers that if they dont do the 1000 mile service it VOIDS my warranty. Was told by another just to keep my receipts and follow the checklist and it WOULD NOT VOID my warranty?? What is the scoop here? Does anybody know for sure? This is all stuff I can do myself very easily so why should I spend the $359 at my dealer when I can do it for $50??

There is some legal precedent which says you can have your vehicle serviced elsewhere and not void your warranty. The only way a company can enforce that type of thinking is if they provide the service to you for free. Be sure to save your reciepts, however.

I wouldn't have any dealings with a dealer that puts
out that kinda BS. The Magnusson-Moss act protects
the consumer to the extent that a warranty repair can
only be denied to you if the company can prove beyond
a doubt that whatever you did (or failed to do, be it mods
or maintenance), directly resulted in the failure to your bike.

your dealer is a liar - tell them to stay on the line while you conference in your state attorney generals office..
seriously - keep good records.
save receipts.
take pictures with your digital camera, and put a little service book together. take pics of everything, the new oil, filter, speedo mileage, adjusting the clutch, etc. it only takes a little effort, and you have a nice visual record you can print out and slap on the dealers desk if he gives you crap.
how can he argue with that? it's 100 times better "record" than you'll get from him, and it's good to look back at yourself.

Oh no, my warranty ran out, no more HD void my warranty crap.
If you let them do the warrantu service, make very sure you go through the checklist yourself.
I would suggest checking the fluids yourself, before leaving the dealership to verify they haven't overfilled, or forgot to refill ALL the holes.
You should also go over everything you can accomplish service wise. More than likely you are just paying for an expensive oil change.
I would also recommend you have them put HD dino oil in it, and then put what you want for lubricants in 1000 miles later.
Stay away from syn3 in the transmission, put something good in there.
JMHO.

Do it yourself and save the reciepts. Start a log book to have on hand for future reference.
Looks like Orlando HD was trying to drum up some business in the service department. Too many riders doing their own service work causing dealerships to lose customers. Sending it to the dealership and paying $359 or doing it yourself and spending $50...............You do the math.
Would it do any good to file a complaint with the MOCO for ORLANDO HD trying to scam you? There should be someone we could report fraudulant dealerships to. Maybe if enough complaints are sent, their license would be pulled.
Then stealerships would think twice about hireing idiots that don't know what they are talking about.
Don't forget to enter ORLANDO HD in the bad dealership section.
