b5mac,
From the sounds of it I would stay away from using slugs.

The reason I'm looking at extended forks is because when I sit on the bike (I'm a big guy at 270lb+) it drops down at least 3 inches or more anddoesn't leave a lot of space for travel while riding. I have had the fender hit the engine guard a couple times and it is also pretty mushy while braking.
I had the dealer switch to SE fluid while it was in the shop (long story) this past spring and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.
I have also been thinking of getting some Progressive HD springs for it to see if that would help instead.

I need to decide if I would want to try and do something like that on my own or have the indy I go to do it. I have done all the maintenance so far on the bike since I bought it, just haven't taken apart forks yet.

Thanks.

I'm pretty lite at 170 or so, for me extending would be a cosmetic thing,I really like the low back end look and was thinking of a way to compliment that. I have heard mixed reviews on the rear shocks. Personnaly I spent a lot on my bike so I'm not into putting just junk on it, if it takes morefunds then I will save for the best I can get. I think you guys are right with the fork tubes, thanks.

I've got 2" slugs (41mm, I haven't seen any 49mm slugs yet) on my WG and have not had a problem. My last bike, a V-Star 1100 Classic, had 3" slugs on it with no problems.

That said, I am planning on upgrading to 4" over tubes in the near future. I mainly did the slugs to see if I was going to like the look and feel of the longer forks before going through the full process of changing the tubes.

Your slugs are they just cold rolled steel, like an inch round and you know 2 to 4 inch long...do you know how the fork cap process works?

The pic at the top of the page should answer you questions about the fork cap. I belive these are cast steel.

Super01, I'm a big guy too. 6'5" and 285 lbs. I would bottom out on speed bumps so I decided to get the extended forks. I've always liked the raised look. I've got another post on here that has pics of a couple of bikes I used to have.

Have a look if you want.

I'm trying to find the a post about extending the front forks. There was talk about slugs about an inch or two and that extends the forks, I was wondering if anyone has seen the thread or knows if the slugs are something I should be able to make. I'm having a hard time finding them for 49mm forks. Any help would be great . Thanks

Just buy the wideglide tubes and springs, along with new seals ect. Instant, relatively inexpensive 2 inch extension on super glides and street bobs.
