Default Fork Stem Cap Removal (FXDWG)

How do you removethe front fork stem cap?

I'm baffled, and the service manual is no help. I'm tryingto access the adjuster nut to correct the front end "fall away."

Thanks.

if you are talking about the cap on top of the upper tripple tree, and just under the handle bar, and about 1.5 inch across, than

it just unscrews. there is like a 1/4 20 bolt welded in the center going straight down. and the cap is like a small paint can top.

to take off just unscrew like any bolt. you may need a strap wrench or slip joint pliers with something that wont scratch like an old leather belt.

found this out when the dealer left mine loose after not fixing the noise.

Is this the same cap where you replace the washer to get rid of the front end "clunk"? Thats next on my to do list.

You can improvise with an appropriate size hose clamp; don't forget leather or rubber to protect the finish.

Who knew? Was trying to figure it out how to get the cap off and accidentally did. Looked all over the internet and couldn't find anything. The parts catalog and maintenance manual do not show this or describe it. Should have searched "stem cap removal" to begin with. Was looking at "triple tree removal". Oh...and used duct tape. Wasn't that tight.
