tacho's

Would like to put a tacho on my Streetbob and was after advice if anyone has done it, what I would like to do is mount it on the lower side of the handlebar clamp as in part number 69439-06 but I cannot find a 'micro' tacho, maybe it would be to small anyway and I should get a 2 5/8" 'mini' tacho but cant gind a mount that sits on the low side of the handlebar clamp, anyone have any ideas??

I still think that the Cobra tach is one of the neatest and not too expensive compared to some of the others, http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetai...p;search=cobra

I had to give mine up when I put on the springer, but I still love my original setup the best of all the tach options I've ever seen. The only downside is . . it's expensive. You can get the details at the link below. Some details about wire routing are inaccurate as I rewired it all under the tank and seat later (signal wire still goes to the ECM).

I don't know exactly what you are looking for but if you want to add a tach but don't want to change the look of your bike you might want to look at a digital.

I had a Speedway Instruments micro-tach on a brake resevoir-mount on my 1200 Custom and loved it. I plan on istalling it on my Street Bob when I have the chance this winter. The owner, Jason, is a HD rider and designed the things for HD bikes. Install is simple and looks permanent and OEM but can easily be removed. If you have questions, Jason will work with you. Tell him Cigarman gave you the info.

http://www.speedwayinstruments.com/ Look at the picture gallery and the great installation instructions. You can even get a plug to connect it to your diagnostic port if you want to temporary set-up while you are making decisions. They come with chrome or anodized black cases. The price is great compared to other tach options.

The first mod I did to my Bob was the tach. I didn't like the handlebar tach so I did some research and found Alloyart.com. They have a tach housing that mounts on the handlebar nut. The housing is kind of pricey (around $200) but that is all you need and the tach itself....and a service manual. Took me and by brother-in-law a whole Saturday to do it correctly. I am very satisfied.

I am not sure if any one is interested but there are a couple of us who have taken the stock harley tach from a low rider and used the center console form the LR also and now have a tach mount that is below the speedo, just like the Low Rider. Some say it was more expensive, but I paid a total of 80.00 for everything, traded some of my parts for others and bought a part. Just a thought I wanted to toss out there. Good luck!

Yeah, that's the same one I used and referenced in that link. I should have at least mentioned the mount in the post I guess.

kpreese,

That's the same link I used to get the idea for the tach. The only thing I did different was I used the service manual instructions for the hook-up.
