another trick that works for me on my 02 FXD, start in neutral, with the engine at a normal idle, enrichner in, pull in the clutch and count to thirty. this is for the first start and shift for the day, the trans just clicks into gear. the 05 is a different animal only because the fuel injection won't idle down until the engine temps come up, so the shift is clunk, once the bike is warm the shift is also a click. learn the phrase" it's the nature of the beast". enjoy and ride safe.
Ah, the good ol' Harley 1st gear "clunk"... On a side note,a buddy of mine who rides a metric was with me once when I bumped the starter button with the clutch out and the bike lurched.
