Had bike out for a 60 mile run today and as i neared home inoticed a strange rasping noise toward rear of bike when i eased throttle during braking manouvers, i listened while travelling thru town and definitely wasn't clutch or brakes....parked the bike at a mates house for half an hour then rode couple of mile home and the noise was gone.
Turns out it was nothing to do with throttle, but a catalogue of errors in the past month, including drain plugs being listed wrong in handbook, had left me riding about with just enough oil in the tranny to avoid the gears seizing [:@]
Reckon i've done around 300 miles in this condition, so will be keeping fingers crossed for a while.
Basically i noticed 5th gear noise for first time everwhile riding 30 odd mile to dealers for a warranty job, and this was dismissed as a/ my imagination and b/ something we've had a memo about.....trusting their word i rodeaway at bike for maybe another fortnight, mostly short jaunts but5th gear noisestarted spreading into 3rd and 4th on two 60+ mile rides i took, presumably when what little oil i had got too thin to cope.

But touch wood i've caught it in time, filled her up with formula+ today and took it out for a quick warm up, deliberately lugged it in 5th andnot a hint of noise.....will take it for a good run then drain it again hopefully flush any debris out....little or no filings round the drain plug magnet, thankfully.
Seem to have dodged a bullet on this one alright, haven't been able to get her out much lately coz of a broken finger, but took her for 100+ mile spin on sunday and no problems to report.
There is definitely a slight whine in 5th, but am assuming this is the"normal" whine i've read of on here.....and when tranny was so low on oil that whine exagerrated to something like the fanbelt slipping on a car.
