Jeff - pulled my stock badges and ran w/o any for a long time and really liked the clean look, but had got a set of Road king Classic badges and after debating for a long time decided to put 'em on, and must say it makes the bike look a little more 'finished' - not sure if that's good or bad?
They're easy to remove so try it both ways if you find a set of badges you really like! Good Luck!
minot, have the exact same bike as you and felt the exact same way about the badges - although they started to grow on melittle bit after I purchased my replacement badges. So, I thought it over for a month or so before I actually replaced them. You can always look at it the way I decided to do - the stockers can always be put back on if you change your mind. I even pulled the old ones off and did a walkaround to see if I'd like it with no badges before I put on the new ones. I decided I wanted something there on that big ole fatbob tank - looked kind of odd to me with nothing. Besides, I paid for a Harley and am proud of it so I wanted to make sure it clearly says Harley on it so nobody starts asking if that's what it is. I see several rice riders around here that put loud pipes on their bikes and then take the tank badges off in what appears to me to be a clear attempt to give the impression to those that know no better that it might just be a harley.
Previous owner removed the ones on my '06DW. He said he liked a smooth tank look. To that end, he also replaced the stock cap & gauge with the pop-up and LED flush. I had no choice and would have prob'ly left it all stock, but I now see why he did it and I'm glad that he did. See what you think.
Pkelly, you asked what we thought so I'm gonna tell you. With those flames where they are on the tank, it looks like something is missing to me - just my honest opinion. Now, whether or not the stock badges would put it right vs. something a bit more original - would be up to you. But, that's my 2 cents.

RE: Tank Badge Poll . . .
Yeah, I can see your point...looks like the flames are "framing" something that just ain't there. I'll keep my eyes open for something that might look like it would be complemented by such framing; a smokin' hot babe (a-la B-17 nose art?), 2D H-D decal as opposed to 3D badge. OrDouble-D's of some sort, like someone here's sig pic...

...Though I know myself too well; talk about a distracted driver!! "Yes officer, it looked like he was trying to lick his gas tank right up until he hit the telephone pole."
