Hey ya'll, just bought my first bike, an 08 street bob, and the more I ride, the more I love it. Got a shade over 3100 miles on it now, having got it on the 1st of March with 6 mileson it. Although she rips, the dang thing sounds like a sewing machine when idling, sounds like a whirring noise coming from the motor itself. Is that just typical Harley? I don't hear it as much on other bikes. Runs great, far as I can tell. Love the forum by the way, have been reading and absorbing as much as I can since I found it a couple weeks ago. You guys are a great help. I want to eventually put V&H big radius, PCI III tuner, and hi floA/C but can't do it yet. Forward controls are the first thing (charlie horse cramps at 6am are not fun!). I diddrop it while cleaning it in the driveway, thank god it only scratched the mufflers and brake lever. Any, I'll quit ramblin.Peace
Howdy from Michigan.
Congrats on the first/new scooter.
Withthe stock mufflers, you aren't going to getas much"Harley sound" as aftermarket pipes.
Like subculture said, the new pipes will help that.....
Yeah that noise is normal. It's sort of a byproduct of the common crank pin engine. Go to a warbird fly-in sometime (or an airshow) where an old radial engine is firing up or shutting down and you'll hear it, they are common crank-pin also. But it has to be a radial engine one. A inline like a P51 won't sound like that, but a P47 will, or a B17 has FOUR radials! When a B17 shuts down you hear that whine for quite a while as the engines die.
