Thanks guys. Yes, I picked up the emblems on eBay. They're actually new ones. Kind of a reissue, I guess.
In retrospect, I think using the mounting brackets may be the best option. I didn't because I'm too much of an impatient dolt to wait on them. I ended up using double-sided tape and silicon. The emblems are hollow so I had to use two layers of tape to get it to rise above the emblem edges to make contact with the tank. I used one strip down the middle. I then used silicon around the edges and ends, gooping it up enough to make contact with the tank.
I have a bit of a problem now as there are a couple of tiny spots on the tank around the emblem where I didn't wipe off the excess silicon well enough. It's leaving some shiny parts around the edges. On the other hand, the emblem ain't going nowhere.
Anyone know how to get rid of thin layers of silicon that I missed? [:@]
You should be able to get the emblems from your local HD dealer. If you have a 2006 Parts & Accessories catalog they are on pg 698. They call them nameplates, instead of emblems.
