Default Questions on your great idea on rigid plates

What did you use to cut the slots? I have chrome side plates, would this still be a good idea for my 2001 wide glide? Any suggestions would be great, I had never thought of doing this and dont really like the looks of the detachable.

Im really resurrecting this but thanks for this idea! I have solid brackets currently for my sportster and would rather not buy detachables if I can modify the existing ones.

If you're looking to do this notch the front ones on the side, not the bottom. That way when you lean back on it there is metal catching on the bolt rather than just being held with the bolt and nut clamping it. It's what I did on mine.

Thanks for the tip!

Another question though- do you need to buy docking hardware still after modifying the brackets in this way? Might sound silly but I have never seen the quick release stuff in person, I just kniw that there are specific sideplates and hardware to go with it.
