The spring has lost its tension...barely goes up on its own, but it will stay up once I kick it that way. For those of you that have also had this happen, did you just get another at the dealer, or the hardware store? Thanks!

needs viagra
actually - can't imagine this spring is worn out. did it come partially unhooked???
make sure its still hooked corectly - sure you already looked at this - but a worn out spring on an 08 does not sound right.
I suppose if you can get it with the exact dimensions at the hardware store, why not? Kick stands are no joke esp. if they fall down. Had mine fall off on the Sporty and couldn't find & cost $200 for the assembly! To replace spring, support bike and remove top lock on the stand, rotate the stand forward and spring should be easy on & off.
Had a problem with my last bike (07, XL1200L) where I broke off that little tip on the cast spring mount and had to wait for four months for Harley Davidson to send a special tool to the dealer to cut off the rest of the post, drill, and tap a new hole. Anyway, I tried every type of spring that I could find and though a couple barely worked, nothing worked as good as the original. Suggest you get a original spring to fit your bike, though be warned, they are a bitch to change !!!!! Good Luck.
Yeah, it's definitely the spring. I don't think it wore out, it got caught last time the bike went on the lift but I didn't think it did any damage at the time........apparently it did.
