Default Derby cover gasket question

In the process of doing the 1000 mile service on a 2008 FXDL. Dealer gave me part no. 25416-99C for the derby cover gasket. This is a flat gasket approx. 7 inches in diameter. Took the derby cover of my bike and the cover has a o-ring type gasket (orange in color) attached to the cover. Did I receive the wrong gasket? Is this o-ring type gasket reuseable?
Any help will be appreciated.

This is quite possibly the third type gasket I've heard of, my original was called a quad ring, similar to an "O" ring only squared, then HD came out with the frisbee with lettering "this side towards.." on it, now you have an orange "O" ring? Prior to putting the cover one remove the "o" ring wipe it off then reuse it, snug down the screws. What I'm reading is you have the flat and an "o". Man o man what is the MOCO coming to?

The gasket they gave you is for the Derby covers they sell, not the stock one. So yes they gave you the wrong gasket. Lots of people will reuse the derby cover gasket as long as its still in good shape.

Yep, they gave you the wrong part for a 2008 (so don't let 'em stick you with a restocking fee!). You need the one on the right (below) and got the one on the left, correct?

Actually, since you are doing this for the 1000mi service, just get the O-ring "service kit" (p/n 17369-06) and save yourself some change.

From what I understand, the frisbee will work and supersedes the o-ring.

The orange o-Ring will last forever
short of taking a knife to it.

I've probably reused mine 3-4 dozen times.

The flat "paper" gasket is for "aftermarket" derby covers
not to supercede the o-Ring.

Info below is from the HD website. I would assume you have the stock derby cover? Not sure if the gasket you got will work or not. The one you got is for the accessory derby covers.

Derby Cover O-Ring

25416-99C

IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY Contact dealer for pricing and availability.

Recommended replacement for Twin Cam 88®-equipped models when installing accessory derby cover.

MSRP US $7.50

If you look up any accessory derby cover on the HD website, it says 06 and later Dyna's require this gasket. When I installed my accessory derby cover, I didn't look to see what was different about it and the original one. I just used the new gasket.
