2006 Dyna's
First time poster hear (been lurking for a couple of yrs though) Interested in buying a used Dyna and have been checking out some 06's . I was just interested in whether or not there is or has been any major issue's or problem's with this year of bike? I already know it's the one year of the dynas with the 88ci and 6 speed. I did do a minor search and found some info about the alternator/generator having loose bolts that needed to be replaced or somthing like that ? If I'm wong please fill me in on the problem. Thanks in advance.

Been a few issues with the 06 consistent with many first year model changes.
I think you will find the most prominent being:
I personally have only had the IPB issue and wouldn't trade my 06 for any model. |
First let me say that I have an 06 Dyna Superglide and so far I have not had any of the listed issues. I hope I don't. I only have around 11,000 miles on it. I believe some of the later 06 models didn't have the IPB problem. I have been very happy with mine so far.

07 ?
For the money I would buy at least an 07. The six speed and the 96CI make a difference. On the highway the six speed lets you cruise at a lower RPM. I have an 08 Street Bob and like it. Lots of folks on here seem to like the Super/Wide Glides. I would think that dealers have a lot in stock these days and you might find an new 08 for not a lot more than a used 06. Depends on what part of the country. Times are hard, this is winter and many dealers have a few more bikes than they would like to have.
Of course plenty of used bikes that folks are selling for economic reasons so you might find a really good deal on an almost new 07/08 used. Good luck. If you don't know what to look for take an experienced friend along or have a dealer inspect the bike before you buy it. |
Back in '99 I had a Super Glide........great bike, rode it to Sturgis in '99. It was a good bike, I would agree with others tho....try and get the 96 cube engine.......big difference from the 88. I certainly love my Fat Bob!!!

The '06 has the 6 six with the 88. It was the test bed for the new 6 speed and 96 that came out in all the Dynas and Touring models in '07. Drawbacks have already been addressed.
A couple on positives: - Not set up as lean from the factory, not an issue if fuel management upgrade is done. - Generally runs cooler than the 96. - Better gearing. |
I got my 06 bob new and HD had a recall(which no one knew about) on the rear axle bearing not fitting right? I noticed it after 5k service were the disc would have a harmonic humm coming to a stop, even worse with a rider. After 3 trips to the stealer: 1st time- nothing wrong, 2nd time- recommend getting a bigger disc, 3rd time- After I told them them I talked to HD, tells me they'll look into it. They put some type of high temp foam in the axle and never had a problem since. Overall, this is one of the better Dyna's I've owned. BTW, she's up for sale

I've got nearly 20K on the odometer. The only thing from stock right now is the stage I intake, exhaust and, SERT.
I've had none of the listed problems with mine. Most everyone I ride with has newer models than mine but none of them can out run me. Not of take off, not on roll on, not on climbing a grade. I've never run to redline in top gear against anyone but I'll tell you from my personal experience, the '06 is as good as they get. |
