Default 2" & 3" tank lifts effect on gas gauge?

I'm kicking around the idea of doing a 2" or 3" tank lift on my fxdb but was wondering how much it would throw off the accuracy of the gauge. I already know the gauge isn't as reliable as it should, but it is somewhat close to reliable to when I need gas & such.

Just am afraid if I put on a 3" lift my gauge will be showing half full and the tank will be empty.

Any thoughts on gauge accuracy after a tank lift had been installed.

Mine accuracy got worse after the 2" lift.
Wasn't very reliable before that either.
Difference I noticed was the Low Fuel light blinks on at just under half a tank.
Gonna mess around with the tab this winter and try and adjust it to a more accurate level.

Personally I hate the gas gauge, rather have a dual filler.

use your milage, and you will not even need to worry about the gauge.

Most cases it gets less accurate, which is what I experienced.. but mine was off even before the lift. There are a few who do experience better accuracy.

I can't really tell, mine was off so far to begin with. I just stop every 150 miles or so because running out sucks.

when you lift the front, you will have more fuel in the tank when the low fuel light comes on than, you did when the tank was at the stock position.to compensate a little i lifted the rear about .75 inch

I haven't used a gas gauge in over 30 years on any of my vehicles.
With my current bike with 2 trip meters, one is for mileage since last fill up, other is for the day/ride length etc.
The low fuel light is kinda handy but it has never taken more than 3.5 gal to fill after seeing it light up.

edit: I have a 2" lift BTW

I just use the Trip, gas gauge was either never readable or wrong anyway.

I'm one of those whose gauge accuracy seemed to get a bit better after the 2" lift install. That said, I don't use the gauge. This is the only bike I've had in my 49 years of riding that's had one and I just can't get beyond the old odometer method.

Gauge will read lower then actual after tank lift. I raised my tank 1.60", warning light came on earlier. I recently swapped out the tank and I put a half gallon of gas in, then adjusted the gauge sending unit arm to trigger the warning light right at the half gallon level. The sending unit float is pretty much sitting on the bottom of the tank at a half gallon. I still rely on the odometer but it is nice to have the gauge functioning, and now when my warning light comes on I know I have a half gallon left (about 20 miles).
