fitting Fatboy bars on a dyna

OK - I posted this over in the Softail section - but got no reply (as usual).

I'm trying to fit a set of Fatboy bars and risers from a 2007.

These are beefy risers and 1.25 bars with minimal rise and a bit more pullback than the stock buckhorns.

The bars do not have a flat spot or taper on the brake side that is common with thicker bars, and allows the master cylinder to fit.

I guess the real question is - Do later model Harleys (Fatboys) have a different master cylinder that allows clearance on bars that do not have this "flat spot".

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean about a 'flat spot'???

The 1.25" Fat Boy bars I put on my Fat Bob didn't any flat spots... They also did not have any 'dimpples'; like the ones on 1" bars at the clutch perch and master cyclinder locations.

Instead of 'dimpples' the 1.25" bars have holes for internal wiring.

thanks for the reply.

yes - no dimples is not a problem, understand the internal wiring and should be fine with that.

the flat spot I refer to is common for 1.25" bars because the master cylinder fits tightly to 1" bars and if the diameter increases, the master cylinder does not clear the bar.

here is a link to carlini that best shows the flat I'm trying to describe. check out the lower bar where the master cylinder mounts.

perhaps the master cylinder changed for all models after a certain year????

Hey 08fxdf,

When you changed bars, did you need to change cables as well? Are your risers just as tall as the OE Fatbob risers? I'm looking to change to Fat Boy bars as well, just wanted to pick your brain.

Thanks,

OK - I guess I'm going to answer my own post.
Visited the dealer this AM - looks like in 2006 the fron master cylinder changed and will now allow fitment of 1.25" diameter bars that don't have the flat spot.
This means for my 05, not only would I have to change out my master cylinder, but probably the entire system becasue I have dot5 and 06+ went to dot 4.

wmo777 - I'm sending you a PM - if you don't have a set of Fatboy risers and bars lined up - maybe we can make a deal.

Thanks,

Yes, I did have to change the cables.

For the clutch and throttle I used stock Street Bob cables and for the front brake I used an 08 Road King line (two disk, braided).

The Fat Bob hand control wiring is plenty long enough for the Fat Boy bars on stock Fat Boy risers.
